The start of the Final Fantasy XIV PC beta test has been confirmed for July 10 via Twitter, a mere one or two more days depending on where you are in the world. However, it is a closed beta test and there are currently no plans for an open one according to Square Enix reps at E3. Those invited can already download the beta client at the beta site.

Famitsu has a lovely report on the subject, but it"s all in Japanese of course. If anything, there are plenty of beautiful screenshots showing off the battle and character creation system. The visuals and especially the lighting have been improved tremendously since the alpha phase.
